Labor Day Will Have a Whole New Meaning!

Big News! Jeff and I are expecting our first child on September 6, 2010...Labor Day. When we got married last May we knew we didn't want to wait too long to have children. We were thinking that 2010 would be a great time to start. Well SURPRISE Baby Ervy made his/her appearance in my tummy in December 2009 and we couldn't be happier! So let's start back at the beginning and I will catch you up on my last few months.
On December 19th, about a week after we got back from our awesome trip to the Bahamas, we got a huge snow storm here in DC. While I was outside shoveling all the snow with Jeff I started to feel like I was going to be sick. This was very unusual for me because I never get sick, so I thought I must be getting the flu. I went inside and sat down on the bed and my head started working overtime. Could I be pregnant?!?! It was too early to take a pregnancy test so I thought I should just wait a few weeks and see if things got better. Eventually I took a home pregnancy test and it came back Positive (yay), then Negative (boo), then I went to the doctor and they said it was Negative (boo). They told me the positive must have been a fluke, and that I wasn't pregnant. So I went about my business and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas, but I still had a weird feeling that maybe the doctor was wrong. After Christmas in MD we were getting ready to head to NJ/NY for Christmas and New Years, when I thought I should test just one more time to be sure. Well 3 Positive tests later it was confirmed that I was indeed prego!!!! Apparently I had tested too early before and that is why I got the negative results. Jeff and I were so excited to finally know! On the car ride to NJ the reality set in that we were really going to be parents. Our trip was that much more awesome because we could talk about all of our future hopes and plans. Over that next week we began to tell our family in person and they were all as thrilled as we were. The looks of excitement on everyone's faces were priceless! Now the journey to motherhood and fatherhood begins. I can't imagine all that God has in store for us, but we are excited for the adventure. What a blessing!

7 weeks
7 week was our first appointment with the doctor and Jeff and I were so nervous/excited to hear if everything was going well. After a lot of prodding and sticking we were assured that so far everything looked great! Later in the week we went for an ultrasound and it was the first time we actually got to see little baby Ervy (yes, that is our nickname for "it"). It was AMAZING! Ervy didn't move at all, but we could see the head and body and it was so cute. We also got to see the heartbeat which was 151 beats per minute. Here is a picture of our little nugget.

Around 7 weeks my symptoms were nausea, heartburn, aversion to meat, and peeing ALL the time. You have to wonder if a McDonald's hamburger is real meat, because I couldn't eat any other meat except for a McDonald's hamburger. It was rough for awhile, but I tried to keep reminding myself that these were all good signs that Ervy was doing well.

10-11 weeks
Now you are up to speed. I am currently 11.5 weeks along and feeling great! Most of my nausea, heartburn, and food aversions are gone. Last week Jeff and I went to the doctor again and we got to hear the heartbeat and it was 171-174 beats per minute. Hyper little one in there! Lord I think it is already taking after Jeff. The baby can actually move now, so it's probably dancing away haha. I still don't have a bump yet, but I do have a bloat which is always attractive at night. The doctor said I have only gained 1 lb which is a miracle since all I eat is junk food. I guess it's time to eat more healthy for the little one. I am a little behind on my weight gain, but I have no doubt I will catch up quickly. Here is a picture of my belly at 10 weeks. A few more weeks and hopefully I will have more a bump to show you all. Jeff and I can't wait to share this adventure with all of our family and friends. Bring on the second trimester!

  5. Dont worry Kimmy! 2nd trimester will be MUCH better! It's called "The Glory Days" for a reason. You'll have more energy and feel more like yourself one you get through the first 12 weeks. Those weeks are definitely the roughest! And be proud of your one pound weight gain! I didnt start gaining until my 6 1/2 - 7 month mark... I was always very proud of my one pound weight gain after many of my appointments (and you'll find that the docs are happy with you too!)Let the weight come when you have larger baby bump to show for it!

We'll talk when you hit THE END (like where I am now- uugghh). I'll spare you all the "lovely" details until you're ready for 'em. Enjoy your pregnancy- you've got a special journey ahead! We are so happy for you and Jeff!!
